Djembé

 

The Djembé originally comes from West Africa and is said to be the drum of  “1001” sounds.

Its energetic grandiose sound is especially apparent when paired with the three bass drums.

Native authenticity and its bond with nature characterize this music which is played at festivals and ceremonies in West Africa.

Themes in the course include:
– Traditional rhythms of West Africa
– Creative drumming and improvising
– Bass drums (Kenkeni, Sangba, Dundun)
